HIT09 is partner in FLAPSENSE, EU funded research project in the framework of Clean Sky 2 (http://www.cleansky.eu/).

The objective of the research project, started on 1st March 2018, and carried out in collaboration with DLR and NLR, is to design and manufacture a contactless measurement system for real time monitoring of proprotor flapping angle to be applied into the Next Generation Civil TiltRotor. The system will be based on an highly accurate optical sensing method providing the actual flap motion of the rotor blade to the avionic system. Besides several laboratory testing at DLR and a test on a rotary test bench at NLR, finally the sensor will be ground and flight tested on the NextGenCTR Demonstrator.

HIT09 is partner in NEXTTRIP, EU funded research project in the framework of Clean Sky 2 (http://www.cleansky.eu/).

The objective of the research project, started on 1st March 2018, and carried out in collaboration with NLR, DLR, DNW and Fokker, is twofold. On one hand, the aerodynamic configuration of Next Generation Civil TiltRotor will be assessed through wind tunnel tests on a large scale powered model with the aim of verifying the architectural key choices and providing guidelines for potential additional improvements. On the other hand, the empennage configuration will be optimized for enhanced aircraft stability using a multi-objective, multi-point aerodynamic optimization platform coupled with CFD.

 

Ernesto Benini and Rita Ponza co-authored the EREA Best Paper 2017

Ernesto Benini and Rita Ponza, President and CEO of HIT09 respectively, co-authored a paper that won the EREA Best Paper Award 2017, the prestigious award given every year by the Association of European Research Centres for Aeronautics.

The paper, entitled “Comparison of Optimization Strategies for High-Lift Design” and co-authored by Pierluigi Iannelli from CIRA, Mauro Minervino from Piaggio Aero Industries and Frédéric Moens from ONERA, is the result of a research carried out as part of the European project “DESIREH” (DEsign, SImulation and flight REynolds number testing) and was  also published in the AIAA Journal of Aircraft (Vol 54, No. 2, March-April 2017).

The award was received by Pierluigi Iannelli on November 29, during the EREA Event held in Brussels, from the Chairman of EREA, Bruno Sainjon, and the Director for Policy Development and Coordination at the DG for Research and Innovation of the European Commission, Kurt Vandenberghe. More than 20 scientific articles competing for the award were presented by the research centres belonging to EREA and evaluated by an international jury of 9 scientists appointed by the Centres themselves and a Scientific Officer of the European Commission.

HIT09 is leader in OPTIMOrph, EU research project in the framework of Clean Sky 2

HIT09 is leader in OPTIMOrph, EU funded research project in the framework of Clean Sky 2 (http://www.cleansky.eu/).

The research project, started on 1st June 2017, and carried out in collaboration with Swansea University (http://www.swansea.ac.uk/), is focused on the development of an optimization methodology for deriving optimized shapes of morphing wings considering both aerodynamic performance and specific mechanical morphing boundary conditions.

 

Professor Benini, President of HIT09, in the evaluating commission at NASA Space Apps Challenge 2017

Prof. Benini, President of HIT09, was designated among the evaluators at the Italian edition of NASA Space Apps Challenge 2017, the largest world hackathon promoted and arranged by NASA in over 200 cities worldwide (20170428 CORVENETO su NASA SPACE APPS VI-1).

Students, makers, scientists, designers and enterpreneurs will elaborate ideas and projects competing against each other on the specific theme “Hearth Science”.

The event, which will take place on 29th and 30th of April in Vicenza (among other locations in Italy), was presented yesterday at Teatro Olimpico, the first and most ancient indoor theatre in the world, designed by the famous architect Andrea Palladio.

HIT09 is partner in X-Pulse, EU research project in the framework of Clean Sky 2

HIT09 is partner in X-Pulse, EU funded research project in the framework of Clean Sky 2 (http://www.cleansky.eu/).

The research project, started on 1st February 2017, and carried out in collaboration with ISAE (http://www.isae-supaero.fr), is focused on the analysis and optimization of active flow control strategies, based on synthetic pulsed jets, to mitigate the wing/pylon/nacelle aerodynamic interference induced by Ultra-High By-Pass Ratio (UHBR) engines installation on Large Passenger Aircraft.

 

HIT09 selected among the 10 best projects in the Clean Tech section of Unicredit Start Lab contest

HIT09 was selected among the ten finalists in the Clean Tech section of the Unicredit Start Lab contest for high potential Italian start-up (https://www.unicreditgroup.eu/startlab/it.html).

The proposed project was an innnovative concept of vertical axis wind turbine for distributed generation in urban and sub-urban areas.

Ernesto Benini and Rita Ponza, President and CEO of HIT09 respectively, presented the project to a commission of experts selected by Unicredit in Milan on 9th July.
